Enalaprilat is the active metabolite of the drug enalapril and the first dicarboxylate-containing angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It was developed to improve upon the limitations of earlier ACE inhibitors by replacing a thiol group with a carboxylic acid group while maintaining comparable potency.
