Guanethidine monosulfate is an antihypertensive active pharmaceutical ingredient that works by reducing the release of catecholamines such as norepinephrine. It is taken up by sympathetic nerve endings via the same transport mechanism as norepinephrine and accumulates in transmitter vesicles, where it displaces norepinephrine.
