11-Deoxycortisol is an endogenous glucocorticoid steroid hormone that functions as a metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of cortisol. It was first described by Tadeusz Reichstein in 1938 as Substance S, also referred to as Reichstein's Substance S or Compound S.
