Carbon tetrachloride is a volatile, non-flammable, dense, colorless liquid with a chloroform-like sweet odor. It was formerly widely used in fire extinguishers, as a precursor to refrigerants, and as a cleaning agent, but has been phased out due to environmental and safety concerns.
