Fire suppressant and trifluoromethylating agent

Trifluoromethyl iodide is an industrial chemical used primarily as a fire suppressant and as a trifluoromethylating agent in organic synthesis. It is also employed as an etchant gas and as a substitute for chlorofluorocarbons in fire extinguishers and refrigeration systems.
