Sudan III is a fat-soluble bis(azo) dye used primarily in histology to demonstrate triglycerides in frozen tissue sections, and it may also stain certain protein-bound lipids in paraffin sections. It has been noted as a carcinogenic agent and is also employed as a fluorochrome and histological dye in laboratory settings.
