Ribitol, also known as adonitol, is a crystalline pentose alcohol that occurs naturally in the plant Adonis vernalis and in the cell walls of some Gram-positive bacteria as part of teichoic acids. It is a component of the chemical structure of riboflavin and flavin mononucleotide (FMN), a coenzyme used by flavoproteins.
