This compound is the 20β-(3-phenylpropionate) ester of oxogestone, a progestin related to the 19-norprogesterone derivatives. It was investigated in the 1960s and early 1970s as an injectable progestogen-only contraceptive at a monthly dose of 50 to 75 mg, but was never marketed due to a high failure rate.
