Cefprozil hydrate is a semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic and a beta-lactam compound with bactericidal activity. It acts by binding to penicillin-binding proteins in bacterial cytoplasmic membranes, inhibiting transpeptidase enzymes and disrupting peptidoglycan synthesis, which prevents bacterial cell wall formation.
