It acts as an opioid analgesic, adrenergic uptake inhibitor, serotonergic antagonist, muscarinic antagonist, serotonin uptake inhibitor, antitussive, mu-opioid receptor agonist, kappa-opioid receptor agonist, NMDA receptor antagonist, delta-opioid receptor agonist, and capsaicin receptor antagonist.
