Alpha-endosulfan is an organochlorine insecticide and acaricide that acts by blocking the GABA-gated chloride channel in insects. It was widely used in agriculture but became highly controversial due to its acute toxicity, potential for bioaccumulation, and endocrine-disrupting properties, leading to a global ban under the Stockholm Convention in 2011.
