Fucoxanthin is a xanthophyll pigment found in brown algae and other heterokonts, where it acts as an accessory pigment in photosynthesis and gives these organisms a brown or olive-green color. It absorbs light primarily in the blue-green to yellow-green range of the visible spectrum.
