Gadobutrol is a second-generation, non-ionic macrocyclic gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It is formulated at a higher gadolinium concentration than other GBCAs, requiring a smaller injection volume, and the macrocyclic structure is associated with a lower risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF).
