Calcium 4-methyl-2-oxovalerate is the calcium salt of 4-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid, a compound also known as alpha-ketoisocaproic acid. It is an intermediate in the metabolic degradation of the essential amino acid L-leucine and is produced by the action of branched-chain amino acid aminotransferase.
